I was born in Switzerland to British parents who were teaching at an English-international boarding school in the Alps - good start, eh?! Then Mother & Dad decided to see what the States were like, so we moved to Connecticut and then Wisconsin, where I enjoyed attending Prairie School; we stayed a while. When I was in my teens, we moved back to the same place in Switzerland, Aiglon College, in the ski resort of Chesieres-Villars, where I learned in the English system after having been in the American system, and where we just had to ski all winter long. ;-) |

After looking at UK & US universities, I got my BA at Boston University, and then my PhD at Duke University (Go Blue Devil Basketball!) in North Carolina. I liked it there (including the Duke Chapel Choir and a science-fiction club), so I took longer than I should have. Sorry, Ken - but thanx for advising me and getting me going. |

I stayed in scientific research at the Institute of Food Research in Norwich, joining another science-fiction club also. Then, what do you know, I moved again, to London and scientific publishing (Portland Press/Biochemical Society), which is a good combination of my interests. That was journals, but I grew curious to compare book publishing, so I joined Mosby, which was bought by Harcourt which was then bought by Reed Elsevier - change without my moving, until I changed offices and did move, to Oxfordshire. Throughout the changes, I've worked on medical books and electronic products.
Among all of this, I appeared on telly four times, in general-knowledge quiz shows. I'd also sung alto (I & II) in choirs since school - but in 2001, having started great singing lessons with Kate Huddie and then Martin Quinn, I liked the idea of being able to sing soprano as well, so I became a sop. I in the Bicester Choral and Operatic Society and Oxford Harmonic Society (having had to give up Kate's lessons, the Mary Ward Singers and Goldsmiths Choral Union when I left London) and thrilling to the high notes! Since I moved to Oxfordshire, I've been able to add performances in musicals, Gilbert & Sullivan, opera and panto, camera club, and photos published in magazines, loving it all.
